伊朗前副防长被绞刑处决
On Saturday, Iran executed former deputy defence minister Ahmad Vahidi for “corrupting the earth” and other charges.
Vahidi was sentenced to death in 2017 for alleged involvement in a 1988 bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires that killed 85 people and wounded hundreds more. He had previously served as defense minister from 2009 to 2013, when he was appointed by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The execution has been criticised by human rights groups who say it marks an alarming escalation of executions in the country, with many concerned that the trial did not meet international standards of fairness or due process. The Iranian government has not commented on Vahidi's case or his execution, but state-run media reported that he was convicted based on confessions extracted through torture and held without access to lawyers during his two-year imprisonment prior to his sentencing.
